It’s all about the festivals in the fall in Japan! This is the Fukai Danjiri Matsuri right by where I live. I was able to watch the festivities from my front balcony. The danjiri pull these huge portable shrines around town, make lots of noise, play traditional drums and flutes and dance around on the shrines. I heard them practicing for the festival at night for a few weeks, so it was nice to see it actually unfolding on the streets.
Here’s a little video of what happens…sorry about the poor sound and videography….
Let’s not forget about the neat activities/toys for the kids and the delicious food!
After the first day of the festival, I decided to explore a bit around my area on my bike. This dilapidated old Buddhist temple is tucked away inside a neighborhood. I actually didn’t even notice it and rode right past it the first time. Had to consult my phone to find it.
