Last month, my mom and I celebrated her 60th birthday by going out of town. She’s been wanting to check out the Getty Center and Getty Villa, so that’s where we headed. Because of timing/days off, we spent half a day at the Center and a full day at the Villa. In hindsight, we both wish we could have done it the other way around. There is a TON to see at the Getty Center. While the Villa is impressive (although a bit odd to think of the lengths J. Paul Getty went to in order to build this Herculaneum villa replica he’d never even live to see… but I guess that’s what you do when you’re a rich oil tycoon), I think we both were much more in awe of everything at the Getty Center. Definitely a place worth multiple visits. But who knows–maybe you art history know-it-alls would say otherwise.
I don’t think either of us were quite prepared for the incredible view at the Getty Center. From the moment we stepped out the doors of the south side, we couldn’t stop saying “Wooooowwww!!!” at every turn. You really can get a 180 degree panoramic view of LA, and aside from the smog, it’s amazing!
Happy (late) birthday, Momma! I had a wonderful time.
